Chief Dr. Sir Chiedu Mbonu Extols ASA DC Foundation, Challenges Leadership to Deliver Legacy

At the heart of the 2025 ASA DC–ASAWW Awards and Gala Night, held on July 12th at the Metro Points Hotel, one voice rang with both praise and purpose—that of Chief Dr. Sir Chiedu Mbonu, a respected elder and longtime supporter of the Anambra State Association Washington DC Metro Area (ASA DC). In his powerful remarks, Dr. Mbonu commended the current leadership for what he described as a “historic and visionary step” in establishing the ASA DC Foundation and launching the Legacy Project: ASA DC Orphanage in Anambra State.

Dr. Mbonu lauded the association for not only raising funds during the event but also for recognizing, for the first time in ASA DC’s history, the donors and supporters who have made such progress possible. He emphasized that this culture of appreciation and transparency is a hallmark of sustainable leadership and urged the current executive team to stay the course.

“This is not just a fundraiser—it is the beginning of a legacy. I challenge the leadership of ASA DC to complete this orphanage project and etch our name in the hearts of generations to come,” Dr. Mbonu declared to resounding applause.

Earlier in the evening, Churchill Okonkwo, who presented an overview of the ASA DC Foundation and the orphanage project, assured attendees that every dollar raised would be judiciously utilized. He emphasized that the Foundation is committed to transparency, accountability, and impact.

In his opening remarks, ASA DC President Sir Benjamine Uduji had passionately called on well-meaning individuals and friends of ASA DC to “key into this legacy project”, promising that every donor would be honored in a Hall of Fame—a permanent tribute to those who believe in the power of community and compassion.

The night was not just a celebration—it was a call to action. With the support of its members, partners, and visionaries like Dr. Mbonu, ASA DC is poised to turn its dreams into a lasting legacy for the children of Anambra State.
